About the speaker:
Sandra Jarvis-Selinger, PhD, is a Professor and the Associate Dean, Academic in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. She is a PhD-trained developmental psychologist and researcher in the area of Human Learning, Development and Instruction. Within her role as Associate Dean, she oversaw the launch of the Doctor of Pharmacy program, as well as the co-led the development and implementation of the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences degree.
Prior to her current position, she was the Director of Curriculum and Assistant Dean, Faculty Development, in the UBC Faculty of Medicine where she led the curriculum renewal project for the undergraduate medical education program and the faculty development programs for both UGME and GME. In 2015, she was awarded the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada’s (AFMC) award for Outstanding Contribution to Faculty Development in Canada.
In addition to her academic administrative roles, she engages in research that supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of effective pedagogical approaches in health education. In 2008 she received a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Career Investigator Award recognizing her scholarly activities. Through knowledge translation, innovative pedagogical approaches, and respectful research partnerships, her research addresses positive curricular change, effective lifelong learning, and professional identity formation.
