About the Presenters
Dr. Vidyadhar (Salil) V. Upasani, MD is a Professor of Clinical Orthopedic Surgery at the University of California San Diego and a Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego. He is the Program Director of the Pediatric Orthopedics and Scoliosis Clinical Fellowship and Program Director of the 3D Innovations Lab at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego. Dr. Upasani graduated summa cum laude from the University of California Los Angeles with highest departmental honors in Physiological Sciences and a specialization in Business Administration. He completed Medical School and his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the University of California San Diego. During this time, he received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to be the Ruth L. Kirschstein research fellow at Rady Children’s Hospital, where he developed a passion for pediatric hip and spine conditions. Dr. Upasani then completed his Fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedics at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Upasani has a special interest in hip and spine disorders in children, adolescents and young adults. He continues to focus on various research pursuits and has received numerous research grants and awards from national and international organizations. He is an active member of the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America (POSNA), American Orthopedic Association (AOA), American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and Scoliosis Research Society (SRS).
Dr. Todd Blumberg, MD completed orthopedic surgery residency at The University of Washington/Harborview Medical Center, followed by fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and additional training in hip preservation surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital. He leads the Child and Young Adult Hip program at Seattle Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Keith Baldwin, MD, MSPT, MPH, is an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Perlman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He is Associate Director of Trauma for Orthopedics, and is Safety Officer for Orthopedic Surgery at CHOP. He has served as Director of Clinical Research at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He specializes in scoliosis, complex pediatric orthopedic trauma. and cerebral palsy, Interests include pediatric orthopedic trauma, pediatric spinal deformity, and cerebral palsy. He has authored over 150 peer reviewed articles and serves on the editorial board of multiple journals. He is currently an editor of Rockwood and Green's fractures in children and the international program editor for AO Pediatric Orthopedic Trauma.
Dr. Patrick W. Whitlock, MD, PhD is the Director, Hip Preservation at Cedars Sinai Medical Center and Guerin Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. He is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in treating children, adolescents, and young adults with a variety of hip-related conditions. Dr. Whitlock received his medical degree from the Drexel University College of Medicine and his PhD in Chemical and Materials Engineering from the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering. He completed his orthopaedic residency at Wake Forest Health Sciences in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He also completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopaedics at Children’s Hospital LA, as well as the Maurice E. Muller Foundation of North America European Traveling Fellowship in Hip Reconstruction in Switzerland, Denmark, and Italy. In 2022, Dr. Whitlock was awarded the Harris/ANCHOR/Washington University Career Development Award in Hip Preservation. In addition to his clinical work, he is involved in both clinical and translational research. As a surgeon-scientist, his research is focused on the development of naturally derived biomaterials and additive manufacturing to treat avascular necrosis and large osteochondral defects of the hip.
Dr. Wendy Ramalingam, MD is an Assistant Professor of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) within the UC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. She is a board-certified pediatric orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in pediatric orthopaedic trauma, infections and lower extremity deformity reconstruction and lengthening. Dr. Ramalingam is fellowship trained in pediatric orthopaedic surgery at the University of Colorado and Children’s Hospital of Colorado. She also has specialized training in adult orthopaedic trauma and pelvis fracture surgery.
